Ok, im using a 1-4 auto 5-6 standard for drag racing,,, I cannot time the shift quick...I can do it fine... very slow but when I rush I miss the shift.
... can someone help me out with a simple way to shift from 4-5th Can I simply press and hold the shift button before going into 5th then when I chop the throttle a little it will pop in gear? Thanks!

NO, dont need the clutch(air shifter). Just like normal clutchless shifting.
CHop the throttle for a split sec to unload tranny and pop into the next gear. My timing is all messed up. On the street I shift like that with my foot. Im using an air shifter and it;s messing me up...My foots moving, my hans moving LOL works fine if I go slower and think about it but when im trying to haul ass so amny things happen I get stuck trying to shft. Its too funnny... my brain shorts out..
So my question is this...

Can I hold the air shifter button down while shiffting into 5th...then chop the throttle a split second, and have it pop into 5th?

dont matter if you have an air shifter or not. if 5th is not cut you must take the load off the tranny before it will go in to the next gear.you can hold up on the shifter all you want but in less you take the load away it wont shift, so yes that may work for you. but why not just have 5th cut too and have a 1-5 tranny and not haft to think about it. if you chopping the throttle you slowing down your et anyway...

I agree, I would love it if it was a 1-6 auto. Unfortuantly I dont have that, not gonna change the setup this summer, to many other projects... I agree..chopping the throttle sucks.
Guess ill try that next time at the track..

I think all I really need to do it press and hold the button right before I shift...bleep the throttle and it will pop right in... then release the button. Makes sense... I was trying to time the push of the button with the bleep of the throttle... im just not that good

Every time you bleep it you are backloading it. That is hard on shift fork. Other than that it should work for you

Those air cylinders apply a tremendous amount of force, even a small one. Pushing the button is going to move the shifter whether the trans is back-cut or not. Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED !! The only way it's going to work properly is with an ignition air kill switch, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the 1-4 override. You could wire a switch in the air kill circuit, flip the switch after your in 4th gear, that way your only interrupting the ignition in 5th and 6th. I had a similar set-up on my drag bike, only the 1-2 shift was override, I forgot to flip the switch once, it ripped it into 3rd gear, and luckily all that happened was it spit the chain off. Transmissions aren't, no point in taking chances. Just my 2 cents...

I have a 1-4 manual 5&6. If u go with an air shifter, remember to count your sifts and only use the air shifter for 5&6. I seen it done but it's tricky. I have no issues with mine shifting manually. But if you are going to end up with an air shifter, my opinion is go back to a stock tranny and use the air shifter on all gears.
