As I read that, the raptor for example can run any fuel any frame nitrous turbo or whatever and they all run against each other?

There is only one class for 4 strokes, there are no limitations except it must be a single cylinder 4 stroke, so yes, you are correct.

not trying to make a stink but i don't understand "four stroke single class" $100 entry 70% payout, single eliminations. this class kind of got the short end of the stick. is there anything that can be done to make it a little better. 100% payback or double eliminations. i was just thinking if the payout was 70% it would be nice to race more "double eliminations" or race less and have 100% payback.

If you showed up Saturday you would pay $10 to enter the gate, that money goes to Speedworld for letting us use there facility. When you pay the $100 that goes back to the winners of the class you entered in. The staff of 25+ that have been working there for 1 week prior and the cost of all the equipment is paid for only by sponsors and whatever we can get from Test & Tune and other classes that are not 100% Payback, there maybe money to make in the sport but we are not after it. We are only after the big payouts for the winners and trying to pay all the bills to continue the events. Without the sponsors and the classes that are not 100% Payback, there would be no big events at all. You will get a qualifying pass for Saturday's Events prior to your race, most racers utilize Thursday's Test & Tune and will even enter in some bracket classes on Friday just get more time in on the track and to help the event itself, in the end it is Planet Sand that has to cover all the bills.

The turnout will be very good, alot of racers are coming. We plan on the starting the format by 10am, we will watch the amount of entries to ensure that we are not going to be up all night. They will be limited if neccessary.

Have you considered doing a unlimited twin class for the head's up, i just don't think it's competitive for naturally asp motor's to run with the NOS stuff, sound's like there's alot of nos coming and it might be good for it to have it's own class?? Maybe you could get a general opinion of all the builder's would like to see??JMO

The competition of the Twin class is awesome, the NOS bikes were not any faster then the Normally Aspirated bikes, there were way more problems with the NOS bikes, NOS is awesome but it is hard to make back to back runs without having issues. Packard has had the fastest twin for many years without NOS, A&S won the event without NOS, some of the fastest E.T's were done without NOS. There were 10mils running better the 16/20mils. There is no dominate reason to split it up yet.

What would you twin cyl racers think about a 2 cyl 4 stroke 3 wheeled fuelie or turbo harley in the compition? Where would you catorgorise a machine of this sort. Thinking about building something with two cylinders to compete with. It will take a lot of ponys to play with you two strokers.

In Louisiana we only had to wear a helmet. We could wear shorts and short sleeve shirts. Didn't have to wear boots or goggles or gloves. It is going to be up to Planet Sand on what we have to wear.

Here is a link to some answered safety issues from the Louisiana Race: I will add a specific post about this soon.

Kill Switches are mandatory!

Everyone needs to be smart and wear/use all the proper saftey equiptment. Helmets, eye protection, pants and kill switches are required.
I would strongly suggest that everyone have a fire extingusher with them as well. We are seeing more and more bike fires each year. I guarantee if your bike melts to the ground, you'll wish you would have had one.

I had shorts on the night I crashed in Glamis.

If anyone has seen the scars on my legs....(how could you miss them, lol)

Those scars would not be there if I would have had pants on.
I found out the hard way drag pipes are real hot at about 70mph.

For those of you who have not crashed, take my advice, you will wish you did.... and o yeah, that saying chicks dig scars.... well it is not as cool when chicks have them, because I have not heard one guy say, cool, check out her legs, lol!!!!

Handicap,
Yeah, small fire extinguishers don't do much good especially if they are not the right kind of extinguisher to put out methanol

VERY good point!!! I am known as "hot pants" or "great balls of fire" from the numerous air filter fire. I am just lucky that those normally extinguish themselves. I have had an extinguisher in staging every time I run the NOS for the last two years.

Sorry to hear of your injury Sherry! Was this the result of the fire you had in LA? For some reason I thought Charlie was the only one that got hurt. If I missed it or it was from some other incident, I appoligize and hope everything heals up the best it can.

After this years accident, I now know why some people may prefer to have someone else ride their bike, instead of just the weight issue. After I thought about it, most of the people that have others drive their bike, have been injured.

After this years accident I also learned something else about safety gear. At the beginning of the year I bought a body armor suit that you wear under your clothing instead of over it. It gives you the same protection as leathers only with out the heat because with the exception of the pads, the material is very light like nylons. Even though it is cooler then leathers, I had never worn it because every race was so hot. I actually was talking about the suit right before I made my run.

I flew off my bike at 80+mph and Peewee115 was only ten feet away when I came off of the bike. From his recollection, at 80mph I hit the sand with my shoulder and flipped over once and slid only four (4) feet. There wasn't any torn clothing scratches or road rash of any kind. With the exception of the broken bones, there was no evidence that I had gotten into an accident. The suit wouldn't have done anything.

My point is not that the suit did nothing though. What it shows it that you can never really tell what is going to happen and sand is different then dirt which is different the asphalt. Since you have no idea what is going to happen, I would recommend being prepared for the worst as opposed to not being prepared at all.

Banzeeman,
Good reply. Thanks for your concern, you are right Charlie is the one that got burned when we had the fire in LA. - The burns to my legs were from a crash when I flew over the top of the hill at Glamis a few years back. - Old news, LOL I still rode in shorts for a while even after that, but I crashed again, and burned my legs again, so now I wear pants....
It takes me a while to learn, LOL And may I add, out of the above accidents, Charlies burn resulted from Methanol, mine may have resulted from Alcohol.....
Hey, I never said I was smart

Z,
Alot of races up here were Tek-Vests. I have seen the padding you described, do you think a tek-vest would have offered any protection. The snowmobile drag guys are required to wear them.

Do you have to pre-enter or can you do it at the gate?

WESTCOAST SHOOTOUT PRE REGISTRATION WILL START TOMORROW!

Check back for more information. PLEASE, PLEASE, Pre-Register so we can avoid the long lines for registration at the event. - If you were at the last Planet Sand Drags, you will know what I mean. Many people stood in long lines trying to register when they could have been running their bikes instead

I understand the concern,
we did not take any bikes out there for Fast Tracks Test & Tune,
we only went out there to take notes on what things we need to change for our event, we were the last ones to leave sunday evening.

There was a descent group of ATV's and a balance of Top Fuel, Sandrails, Trucks, Etc..

This was a recipe for long breaks during track preparation with only 1 water truck and tractor,

The West Coast ATV Shootout is for ATV'S ONLY

We will control the event at the end of this month, entries will be limited to avoid around the clock racing. Pre-Registration is now open for this reason. Drivers meetings are mandatory and racing starts after the meeting. We have asked for 2 water trucks and 2 graders to be on hand keeping the track clean.

I don't think it will be a problem. We were running with a lot of cars. I know not as many bikes as what will be at the PS shoot out but we all know that cars take a lot more time.

Thanks for the info Scott. That Tek-Vest looks like just the thing I am looking for. I have checked out the wesite and it looks very good. Do you know if this company is the only company to offer something like this?

I am going to be peaking with them this week and if I purchase one, I will get back and give some feedback on what I think.

With the speeds we are hitting these days, a lot more people should consider the safety equipment they wear.

I need the full steel body armor suit like the used in the middle ages!!! LOL 100lbs of steel should make me fly down the track!! LOL

I think they are the only ones the make that type of vest. I'll ask one of the snowmo guys when I see them. Or since I know a couple are on here maybe they will reply directly.

The Tek-Vests offer some good protection, better than an MX chest protector, IMO. The drag pro-lite is designed for snowmobile drag racers and is certified safe by the ISR racing series. www.tekrider.com

The original idea was,
anything powered by a "cycle" powered motor is allowed,
if the engine orginally came from a streetbike or atv then it is all good.

We are planning on running classes right after the drivers meeting and then taking a 2 hour break between 2-4pm, we will discuss this at the drivers meeting each day.
