dunejumper, i was on the receiving end of a fiasco like that as well. USPS parcel post took right at 6 weeks from kansas to oklahoma. It was a one off steering stem w/o another to copy. Like you said, about the time we gave up it showed up looking like the box went through a tornado. No harm done other than some lost sleep!!

heres the reason ups can shove it in their azz.

ordered some nomex labcoats for work and this is how i got the box. i know a builder that has had motors dropped and broken into many pieces thru ups, yeah they will pay for it with the insurance but they seem to like to throw stuff off the trucks and the rollers in their warehouses.

i use usps, mom works at the post office they are a lot cheaper and priority is like 2 bucks more if that, 3 maybe and like other said 2-3 days usually.

those flat rate boxes you cant ship anything in them as long as it fits. be heavy as hell but as long as it fits flat rate it for 8.95.

man i once had a big headache due to usps. wickedcubs remembers. it took over a month for him to get a money order form me. i hated that so bad that i always advise buyers/sellers to STAY AWAY FROM USPS! i use fed-ex and ups. not a problem since.

i know of someone who had a 10,000$ motor vanish......shipping through DHL

i also know someone who recieved there box back from a polisher with it opened and the most expensive stuff missing. and then they showed up on ebay a month later........shipped through the post office

moral of the story.......if its valuable to you put some shipping insurance on it that exceeds what its worth

I must agree I think UPS (Brown Truck) really sucks. Im sorry if any of our fellow members work for them, and this is no way directed toward you. I shipped a banshee engine through them and recieved it back from my builder with a highly damaged case. The builder is well know and top knotch. I took all proper precautions, had purchased my proper insurance, and even sent in the pics to prove it. UPS tried to blame the builder for bad packing. 1 the builder is very very reputable. 2 the builder only builds 2 stroke engines(not boat motors or V8's) and he has done it for many years so he know how to pack them properly. 3 I paid for my insurance and this should be fixed. Im not trying to pull anything over I just want my stuff fixed. UPS told me to contact with the insurance company. I did and maid my insurance claim. I called the insurance company that UPS uses, abouy my case. They said it is not insurance that you buy when you ship(they called it some other B.S.). When the company answers the phone. The company that UPS told me to call. They answer the phone ________ Insurance. So how do they sell something other than insurance I dont know. The insurance company said they could not even talk to me. The insurance company said that the builder that shipped the motor back to me would have to do the talking(a bunch of B.S.). Why should the builder have to fight a battle for my belongings? So I just gave up because builders are way to busy to have to deal with that stuff. The builder said they would take care of it but thats not the point. Point is NEVER USE UPS OR BUY THEIR INSURANCE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT MATTER THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND AND YOU WILL NEVER GET YOU BELONGINGS FIXED. UPS DEFINATLEY SCREWED ME. IN MY OPINION YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER USE UPS(BROWN TRUCK). Thanks for listening
