I like the theory but a couple of things come to mind,One of the things that I see is some will have unlimited passes to try and beat another time( I for one am glad when elimination rounds are over lol) and also in the way that we run now all of the bikes are actually running other bikes that are the same level so there is a sence of accountability for the bikes , lets say there is a timer issue,, two bikes on the same level are going be closer to having the right winner and pointing out the issue where this way I feel it will not.. that was one of the answers I heard 2 years ago,,, the true winner will break the beams at the end first, and that made since, now that would be taken away, I could be wrong.. I do like the time issue alot

PS I love to line up with Dan, Dennis, or Kim,, now it makes me nervous because those guys are the best in my mind(and everyone elses) and they are who I look up to and who I want to be competitive with, but I am not against trying anything new smile

I am not against trying a new idea, and this will be a way of giving someone nearly unlimited attempts at getting the low numbers that they want, that being said.....I think giving someone nearly unlimited attempts to break existing records, AND giving them a 3% margin to backup the pass is going to make it easier to break records that have already been set with a "tougher" system.

I personally feel we messed up by changing the backup percentage from 1.5% up to 3% anyway.....now we are going to give everyone a bunch more attempts to use that 3% margin.

I like it in one sense b/c it would move fast and you aren't limited to how many passes you can make. You can just run whoever and however many times you want or until you pop!

On the other hand, I think you would be taking the whole point of racing out of it. The point of racing is going headsup with a comparable bike, whoever gets to the finishline first wins.

When you line up in the scenario being talked about there is no pressure, if you red light, miss a gear, have to get out of it, etc. it is no big deal just run back around and get in line. You have a much better chance at making consistently good passes in this case (which is a good thing for you as bike owner) b/c there is no pressure and no mental stress when you line up next to someone.

It definitely takes the whole mental part of racing out of it.

Scenario:

You are in the finals racing a bike that is running consistently .1 or .2 faster than you. You know before staging in you have to cut a better light then this person. You stage in and bam red light, you're done. Or you stage in and have complete brain fart and cut a .875 light.

I don't know, I like it in one sense but don't agree with it in another.

Can't hurt to try!

I am almost ashamed to admit it but for once I agree with Calvin.3% is way too much wiggle room for people trying to set records and it is not fair for the people who set the old records using the 1.5% rule.

Records have been allowed to be set in Time Trials before making this format no different. In LA we had 2 days of Time Trials and in the upcoming event we have 2 days of racing.

If you run a 3.28 your backup time of 3% needs is less then 1 tenth or 3.37, to some this figure is large but I have a stack of times where our racers could not meet this challenge.

If the original time was ran on a fresh graded watered to perfection track it will be very hard for them to match the elapsed time later within 3%. Weather, Ruts, Excessive Water, No Water, will change the chances for a backup time to be reached. 1.5% is reasonable for a asphalt track but not dirt/sand where the consistancy changes and your stage placement for a rerun may not be 1st after the track is groomed.

my thoughts on any record run is if any way possiable, can the records be set into computer and when 1 is brokes, something flash up and running be stopped and that bike allowed to imediately make a back up pass then under same conditoins, maynot be feasible to do it that way thoo

To me Charlie, that is the way it should be...It SHOULD be hard to set a record, if you make it to easy it will mean less to everyone.

How are they going to distinguish between an Unlimited Pass and a Limited Pass?
