Planet Sand presents Night Drags at Dome Valley Raceway,

September 25th, 26th 2009 in Wellton, Arizona

All ATV Run what you brung for Planet Sand - Official Records and Trophies

Friday from 4pm to Midnight
Saturday from Noon to Midnight

20 Hours of Racing

Our Tech Inspection Team will register your bike into our networked database, you will then be able to race whenever you want against whoever you want.

Our Computer Records Team will keep track of your E.T/MPH/REACTION/CLASS thru the entire event calculating who is the fastest of our PSDRA Heads Up Classes.

We will also create a winner for our Pro 1 (4.50 & Faster) & Pro 2 (4.50-6.0) classes based on the most consistent Elapsed Times ran including Reaction Time (This eliminates down time for DIAL IN/LADDER CREATION and stops staging/sand bagging techniques used by some).

This is a much different event then anyone has ever seen, this is real racing designed to get the most out of your weekend and make your passes all count.

Benefits to this race include continuous action for all involved including spectators, no stress when you have to work on your bike, no looking for racers when its there turn to race or ladder down time.

We also will employ a unique way of running the bikes in the staging lanes to promote fair staging time between track grooming.

There is more information coming soon including entry fees, class payouts, etc..

whats up spongebob, I am junior and I ran the staging lanes in LA.

I am part of the staff for Dome Valley and Laughlin, we are going to bust some bikes thru the staging lanes.

yes, this is 20 hours of racing bringing the best you can to the track. the computers will do the calculations on who wins what classes and records. no delays and no classes to form or ladders to build, kick ass racing the whole time.

There are 11 Four Stroke Classes available at this race to register in. There are 33 Total Classes/Records that can be achieved in the PSDRA and they are all available at this race.

Example: if you have a 4 Stroke OEM Chassis Limited 0-505cc Bike, you will be Tech Inspected into this class with any others comparable to yours. The Winner for this class will be determined at the end of the event based on your Fastest E.T./Reaction Time during the 20 hours of racing.

Pairing up to race your opponent is only if you make the effort to stage at the same time he does. Remember its your best against his best including the reaction time.

im not sure if this has been brought up but how come you have the split in cc at 0-505 and 505-730 or why would you have 450 based bikes competing with 660 based bikes doesnt really seem fair JMO

When the 4 Stroke CC Breakdown was created years ago the 450/505cc was comparable to the 660/727cc.

Changes maybe due for these classes for 2010 but they will have to stay the same for now.

I hear more people are working on the 700 raptor then the 450's now.

I know at least the first year of heads up racing the 450 won the entire single cylinder four stroke class.

there still are some built 450's that run good in that class of 0-730.

same classes as the last event plus a few more, whats interesting is this format will allow you to register into multiple heads up classes and a bracket class without ever taking the time to build a ladder, qualify or dial in. should be interesting and fun, and non-stop racing.

Pretty interesting way to race.

How will it be set up exactly? One pass and the event is calculated and over? Or...

Do we all race
Field cut in half for respective classes
All race again
Field cut in half again
etc.

?

What about TnT?

lets just say you make 6 passes then your bike blows up.

pass 1 you break a chain
pass 2 you red light
pass 3 you run a 3.501
pass 4 you miss a shift and run 4.0
pass 5 you run a 3.519
pass 6 you go boom

because 3 and 5 are your best legitimate legal passes and they are within 3% of each other, 3 is valid for winning your heads up class or bracket class.

now lets say someone else in your class ran a 3.500 and a 3.509, he has you beat in e.t. on the 3.500

however if he cut a .875 light and you cut a .420 here is what the computer will calculate

(3.500+.875)-(.400)=3.975 .vs. (3.501+.420)-(.400)=3.521

which means you win from the reaction time with a overall lower SCORE of 3.521

Reaction Times are not included in Official Records, they are based only on Elapsed Times and backing it up within 3% during the event, if the 3.500 was less then whats in our record book, he gets the record no matter what.

in this example you Won the Race/Class Event because you cut a good light and backed it up within 3%

That sounds pretty legit to me. I think no matter what you aren't going to make everybody happy, but it is a pretty solid base I think.

I kind of like it actually, and it takes a lot of pressure off the rookies who get all antsy racing a packard or a K&T.

I believe this format will bring some records down. Pretty exciting really. You can simply go to run numbers, concentrating on the times not the "race" at hand.

Kind of is a tnt, but the et actually counts. I am looking forward to seeing how it all turns out

My question?
You have 16 bikes in a "class"
you have to make 4 winning passes to win that class, what if you have 2 great passes, and 2 that are broke chain, and then the last you burn a piston.
the runner up and 3rd place makes cansecutive "sp" passes but does not quit run the better et.

You can claim the record, but how can you claim the win not knowing that your better pass was "against" the runner up.

If this is only a t-n-t day and a record setting event it is fine, but the only other awards you can give would be fastest ET per class.

Just my .02

That is a pretty big fault with this set-up. The other being that in the past you had to set a record during a "race". If you were to get put out 1st round, your ability to set a record E.T is very limited. Now, you have 20 hrs to knock someone (whom had earned the record the by the original method) off the record books.

Is this really "racing" ? It is quite common that the fastest bike doesn`t always win.

in this format if you had 16 bikes that registered for a specific class there would only be 2 winners (1st/2nd place)

they will claim victory based on there 2 best passes of e.t./reaction time within 3% of each other.

they will never be forced to race each other whereas 1 wins and the other gets put on the trailer due to a lesser e.t/reaction time, red light, breakdown.

if you pulled your bike off the trailer ran 2 times with awesome e.t's/reaction you dont have to run anymore to have the chance at winning your heads up class and even the bracket race.

you dont have to race 4 times because 16 were registered in your class.

you can only get the official record based on e.t. and can only win your class if you run the e.t. and cut a good light.

We have always allowed our records to be set in Time Trials and the class racing, so there is really no change here. Many of our current records have been set in the first 2 days of Time Trials.

in a laddered race you are running against a comparable bike and still have the chance at losing on a red light, bad reaction, breakdown or slow e.t.

if you can make 2 good passes in this format your chances of winning have increased ten fold, if so you are not going to lose from a breakdown, red light, or bad run.

for the bracket race you will not have someone sandbag you half way down the track or play staging games.

if you look at the dates on many of the offical record time slips, you will notice many were acomplished on time trial aka test and tune days.

if a crew made the effort of traveling across the country or overseas it would be hard tell them any time didnt count. if we are all there to witness the pass then it counts.

example: #69 Angel Morales, his 3.28 record breaking pass was made on the first day of Time Trials in April 2009. I couldnt see telling the puerto rican crew, sorry but that doesnt count, lol

example: Wild Thing made its 2.78 record pass on April 16th on a solo run backing it up on the 17th. We all know it was legitimate smile

yeahthat It sounds great, the biggest complaint I heard in April was not enough Test n Tune. Not the case here and your times during TNT could win a class. There is never going to be a P.S. race to make everyone happy so lets try this one and see how it works out.

Charlie this is best idea ever imo. You take pressure off of everybody this way and the guy thats working his ass off dont have to wait for 4hours to see if his tire swap made a difference. The computer can tell you evrything about each class of bikes and the winners also.Dam this is my kind of [censored] for sure.

I like the theory but a couple of things come to mind,One of the things that I see is some will have unlimited passes to try and beat another time( I for one am glad when elimination rounds are over lol) and also in the way that we run now all of the bikes are actually running other bikes that are the same level so there is a sence of accountability for the bikes , lets say there is a timer issue,, two bikes on the same level are going be closer to having the right winner and pointing out the issue where this way I feel it will not.. that was one of the answers I heard 2 years ago,,, the true winner will break the beams at the end first, and that made since, now that would be taken away, I could be wrong.. I do like the time issue alot

PS I love to line up with Dan, Dennis, or Kim,, now it makes me nervous because those guys are the best in my mind(and everyone elses) and they are who I look up to and who I want to be competitive with, but I am not against trying anything new smile

I am not against trying a new idea, and this will be a way of giving someone nearly unlimited attempts at getting the low numbers that they want, that being said.....I think giving someone nearly unlimited attempts to break existing records, AND giving them a 3% margin to backup the pass is going to make it easier to break records that have already been set with a "tougher" system.

I personally feel we messed up by changing the backup percentage from 1.5% up to 3% anyway.....now we are going to give everyone a bunch more attempts to use that 3% margin.

I like it in one sense b/c it would move fast and you aren't limited to how many passes you can make. You can just run whoever and however many times you want or until you pop!

On the other hand, I think you would be taking the whole point of racing out of it. The point of racing is going headsup with a comparable bike, whoever gets to the finishline first wins.

When you line up in the scenario being talked about there is no pressure, if you red light, miss a gear, have to get out of it, etc. it is no big deal just run back around and get in line. You have a much better chance at making consistently good passes in this case (which is a good thing for you as bike owner) b/c there is no pressure and no mental stress when you line up next to someone.

It definitely takes the whole mental part of racing out of it.

Scenario:

You are in the finals racing a bike that is running consistently .1 or .2 faster than you. You know before staging in you have to cut a better light then this person. You stage in and bam red light, you're done. Or you stage in and have complete brain fart and cut a .875 light.

I don't know, I like it in one sense but don't agree with it in another.

Can't hurt to try!

I am almost ashamed to admit it but for once I agree with Calvin.3% is way too much wiggle room for people trying to set records and it is not fair for the people who set the old records using the 1.5% rule.

Records have been allowed to be set in Time Trials before making this format no different. In LA we had 2 days of Time Trials and in the upcoming event we have 2 days of racing.

If you run a 3.28 your backup time of 3% needs is less then 1 tenth or 3.37, to some this figure is large but I have a stack of times where our racers could not meet this challenge.

If the original time was ran on a fresh graded watered to perfection track it will be very hard for them to match the elapsed time later within 3%. Weather, Ruts, Excessive Water, No Water, will change the chances for a backup time to be reached. 1.5% is reasonable for a asphalt track but not dirt/sand where the consistancy changes and your stage placement for a rerun may not be 1st after the track is groomed.

my thoughts on any record run is if any way possiable, can the records be set into computer and when 1 is brokes, something flash up and running be stopped and that bike allowed to imediately make a back up pass then under same conditoins, maynot be feasible to do it that way thoo

To me Charlie, that is the way it should be...It SHOULD be hard to set a record, if you make it to easy it will mean less to everyone.

How are they going to distinguish between an Unlimited Pass and a Limited Pass?

Registration will assign you a Color Coded Card to Display on your bike with a 'L' or 'U' added to the bikenumber. If you go into the staging lanes with a Nitrous Bottle or have some of that funny fuel, you will need to be displaying your Unlimited Card, if its all motor then you will need to switch to the Limited Card. Only 1 card to be displayed at a time.

There is a airport in YUMA if you find something reasonable there. PHOENIX is the best place to fly into, then its probably a couple to the track from there.

Yup, Phoenix airport is about 2 hours from the track. Yuma is closer but will cost more to fly into.

There are probably alot of people coming in from Phoenix. I would bet you can probably find a ride with someone who is heading to the track if you fly in there.

So THAT'S what that half-choking / half gagging sound is that have been hearing on the weekends that you guys have been testing......It's Jade, puking at the thought of running a cast cylinder!....It's OK Jade, it's NOT one of our castings, so you should be about over the initial gag reflex you got when you first realized you were "riding in class....with cast"............LOL
