SAND MOUNTAIN, NEVADA
EASTER 2001

I wanted to post speeds of the top five vehicles, in
all classes up the drag hill, for Saturday afternoon,
but didn’t find the right deal on a radar gun, and
didn't have any luck on trying to borrow one either.
From what I heard, from people with guns, earlier in
the week; normal speeds were down about five MPH.
The nearby FALLON NAVAL AIR STATION provided everyone
with some good entertainment with fly-bys from not
only a search and rescue copter, but also a couple of
passes by a P51 MUSTANG, those guys just have too much
fun!
LIFEFLIGHT was present three times that I saw, and that,
however is never fun to see. It must be more than
coincidence, that 90% of the time, they are responding
to an incident that happens in the same area;
JUST OUTSIDE CAMP.
Inclement weather, with snow falling on Wed. quickly
gave way to sunny skies, and temperatures in the 70's
by Sunday, making it hard to leave.
By Saturday night, the holiday was in full spirit.
The normal fireworks and pyrotechnics were enhanced
by some abnormally weird sights and sounds. I saw
some kind of four wheel vehicle, pulling a trailer,
and both were adorned with strings of Christmas
lights,the trailer was full of candy that they were
handing out to the kids. I saw a theater, set up on
the side of a weekend warrior that could be seen and
heard from the top of the mountain. It got pretty
crowded over there when they plugged in HUEVOS III.
As a nice departure from the usual antics, I saw no
burning tires rolled down the mountain, to neither;
litter the flatlands with machinery grabbing spools of
wire, nor smash through camps, destroying everything
in the way.
It is said, although I didn’t see it, that there was
a six foot Easter bunny, cruising the dunes on a
banshee Sunday morning.
