Well Easter has come and gone and I am just
getting around to writing this report. There really
isn’t much to report on since Planet Sand didn’t
make it out to the dunes for Easter this year. We did
get a few pictures from William Clark. You can
see them here.
I talked
with the Sheriff and BLM just shortly after the
Holiday weekend. They both expressed that things were
left cleaner this year. But that does not mean clean
enough. I don’t understand why people cannot take
all their trash with them. When I was growing up we
were taught to take everything with us. In fact we
often took home more than our trash. My Dad would have
kicked our asses if we left our crap lying around.
Perhaps that’s the problem with people these days,
they didn’t get their asses kicked enough when they
were growing up. Whatever the case I think we need to
step in and make up for the inadequacies of others.
No, that doesn’t mean go kick the crap out of the
neighborhood kids. I mean clean up after others. I
challenge everyone, when you are cleaning up to go
home take a look around at how others have left their
camp areas. Challenge your kids to see who can pickup
the most trash. If all us responsible OHVers were to
do this I think it would make a huge dent in the trash
out there. I know that cleaning up after others is not
the cure to the problem. But where do you draw the
line? Personally I would love to meet up with these
idiots and rub their faces in the trash they left then
watch them clean it up with their mouths. But that is
the violent side of me that my parole officer says I
need to control (kidding). Anyway, if all of us
don’t step in here real soon who knows what will
happen.
The Sheriff expressed his concern for all the
loud parties going on out there, the big fires and
loud thumping music. I like to drink and listen to my
music when I am at the dunes. But I don’t make
everyone within a 1-mile radius suffer listening to my
Junior Brown CD. I am sure a lot of you remember the
North sandy beach at Yuba. What a good time that was,
rowdy but fun. I am not going to sit here and tell you
that all the things that went on at Yuba was
disgusting, immature and down right sinful. In my
opinion it was fun and rowdy when I was 19. But now at
31 I cannot hang with that anymore, and now I can see
that it needed to be controlled. Obviously it
couldn’t be, so they shut down the North beach
because of all that fun we were having. Well where do
you think all these kids are going now to have all
there fun? You guessed it, our dunes. I was told that
if this continues they may have to limit the amount of
people they allow in Little Sahara, kind of like the
boat limit on lakes. I don’t know about the rest of
you but if I drove my gas guzzling Motorhome 2 hrs to
be stopped at the gate and told “sorry we have
reached our limit” I am not gonna be very happy.
Then you find out later that there were 1,000 kids
there partying it up, kids that do not own a rail,
bike or quad that just go down there for the good
time. Then when this “controlling” does not work
they close it down. What are all of you going to do
then? What will you do with your rail or quad? I
thought my big shiny aluminum wheels would be cool
planters for my deck. And the frame could be donated
to the city park for monkey bars. I ask myself “what
can be done to fix this problem?” I think, hey a
volunteer watch group would give more eyes and ears to
law enforcement. Yeah this is a good idea. It could be
like a neighborhood watch program. Then reality sets
in, what a dork I am. I tried this idea. I begged and
pleaded to get people to help in this effort. I
arranged a meeting with the BLM and the Sheriffs
office. I gave people plenty of time to plan to attend
this meeting. I had a lot of people tell me “great
idea Boyd, lets kick some but. You can count on me
being there” Well, three people showed up, myself, Jason & Cal. The three
Planet Sand boys. So getting back to my question, how
can we fix this problem? I don’t know! I have tried.
I am out of ideas. We are under attack by the tree
huggers, anti fun groups whatever you want to call
these guys. But in my eyes we as an OHV group are
looking really bad at this point.
I am very open to suggestions.
Please let me know what we can do.
Obviously I am not smart enough to figure it
out myself.

1 cow was shot.
8 guns seized
1 ATV seized
To the idiot that shot the cow...........What
the hell did you accomplish with this meaningless
stunt? Do you realize that cow was someone's livelihood?
Believe it or not that
cow made someone money. But now a dead bloated cow is
worth nothing. You need your head examined.
I also heard (from a reliable source) that
three people were hit just walking to the bathrooms.
What is up with that??? Don't these jerks watch where
they are going? Oh! Duh! that was a stupid question. I
wish I had a dollar for every time I have seen someone
on a bike looking everywhere but where they are going
and doing mach 9 in the camping areas. Sorry folks, I
call them as I see them. I hate to point fingers at
the bikes but that comes from my own experiences.
I usually try to keep my cool here on Planet
Sand. But honestly, I HAVE HAD ENOUGH. Like I said, I
invite everyone's ideas or opinions.
